Tunnelling Engineering Manager

The CPB Contractors, Ghella & UGL joint venture has been successful in securing the contract to deliver the $2.6bn M6 Stage 1 project. The project will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and help return local streets to local communities.
With work scheduled to commence in late 2021, the M6 Stage 1 project scope includes the construction of twin four-kilometre tunnels and associated works, linking the M8 Motorway at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah.
The M6 Stage 1 team are currently looking for a motivated and experienced Tunnelling Engineering Manager to join the team. Reporting to the Tunnelling Director and based in Mascot, this role will be responsible for managing planning, design interface, program and construction methods for the tunnel excavation and civil fit-out works.
The key responsibilities will include;
Planning & Programming
Oversee planning and program development, including
Test & verify the accuracy of planning and programs, including long and short-term activities, resources, material and personnel requirements to meet or better the target program
Maintain focus on critical path and ensure that non-critical activities are progressed so as not to become critical
Accurate and timely reporting on program performance including explanation of departures and recovery of lost time
Managing interfaces within the tunnel and with other internal team members
Review RFI’s and design changes proposed by the team to ensure that all aspects of design management are considered prior to progressing
Coordinate construction input into design with specific regards to risk, constructability, impact on cost, time and contract requirements
Ensure design documents, standards and code requirements are reviewed and understood by the team
Review and advise on the sequencing of construction activities and interfaces with excavation and civil fit-out works
Review and advise on methodologies for excavation and civil fit-out works activities
Research and develop innovative construction methods where appropriate
Assist/Coordinate the approval of permanent materials
Coordination of survey requirements for set out and as built
Degree qualified civil or mining engineer, or related discipline
Extensive experience (10+ yrs) in engineering positions on major infrastructure projects with varied construction methods
Ability to act decisively and drive performance
Excellent communication skills, with ability to explain complex technical information in a clear and concise way
Strong influencing skill set, with ability to work with a wide variety of project team members
